I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

We got home from our Easter lunch with family yesterday, and as Danny walked past me into the closet, he just sighed, that happy kind of sigh that tells you everything is all right with the world. “We have such a good life,” he said as he dropped his church shirt into the laundry hamper. […]

Today in the Christian women photographers’ community I’m involved in on Facebook, another photographer mentioned that she would love to hire someone to come in to wash her laundry and put it away. Not sweep her floors. Not cook her meals. Just wash her laundry and put it away for her. Although she’s far away […]

Sometimes when there’s too much going on or life feels a bit hectic and stressful, you really do need to just stop and smell the roses. Or photograph the azaleas. Whatever floats your boat.~ Laura

It’s been five days since Bravissima died. That morning was peaceful — after some coaxing, she came outside to graze in front of the stable, enjoying the bright sunshine soaking into her black coat. We fed her until that always-hungry little mare seemed almost full: Her breakfast, a whole bag of carrots, three apples. Then […]

This little guy came to visit the other night. This being Florida, it’s hardly a banner day when you spot a lizard. They’re under every leaf and on every sidewalk. But they aren’t usually hanging out on my front door, peeping in at me. I had to smile. grab a camera. Because it was fun, […]

Let me start by saying that George isn’t a bad boy. He can just be challenging sometimes, like a teenager going through a rebellious, not quite “I-hate-you” but “I’ll-show-you!” stage. He’s a real smarty pants, and a real smarty. So smart that when Danny’s mom said she wanted to trim George’s eyebrows and pulled out […]
