I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Years ago, I heard a great analogy about the way men think and process versus the way women think. Sure, it’s a generalization, but in my experience, it’s generally true. Men, the analogy goes, have brains that function like waffles: They compartmentalize each thing going on in their lives into its own section, like those […]

“We” sort of started via text message — literally my first text message ever, because I was late to the game. All the games. Here I was, a sophomore in college, and I’d just bought my first cell phone years after my friends all started carrying them. Also, I’d never had a boyfriend. But his […]

The other day, Danny asked me, very intently, what we were doing on Friday evening. Nothing, I told him. We had no plans, nowhere we had to be. And then he got the biggest grin on his face and said he wanted to go on a date with me on Friday night. I don’t know […]

In three words: I loved it. In five words: I didn’t take many pictures. So, although I may or may not eventually post some more New Orleans shots on the blog, I hope you’ll please enjoy this one to the fullest, or as much as you can enjoy a photo of a name badge: I […]

It never fails: During the latter half of fall and all of the Christmas season, I want crisp weather. Wool coats. Mulled cider. Cornflower skies. Cozy scarves. Pies, warm and fresh from the oven. Then January 2 rolls around, the holidays come screeching to a halt, and I’m ready to move on. To springtime. Sundresses. […]

You might remember my wonderful friend Erin from the beach portraits I took of her with her best friend (and upcoming Maid of Honor) Hannah, last July. Erin told me after the fact that, during our photo session, Hannah kept whispering to her, “Adam’s going to love these pictures of you. Adam’s going to love […]
