I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

New Year’s resolutions are something I’ve turned my nose up at for many, many years. Because I learned at a very early age that they’re a terrible idea, unless you’re looking for a new form of self-flagellation. Really, how many people stick to their shiny new five-days-a-week gym routines for more than about four days? […]

Oh, the trials we endured for this family portrait session! We drove 12 hours. We had to shoot it at 10:00 at night, because a busy and behind-schedule restaurant kept most of the family members out later than intended. To top it all off . . . Danny and I had to get in these […]

George didn’t want to wear his reindeer antlers tonight. Or his jingle bell collar. Or even lie in front of the Christmas tree long enough for me to get the perfect Christmas portrait of his scruffy little face. This will have to do. That’s okay though. We’ve already had a very merry Christmas, filled with […]

Being around horses several days a week, it’s easy to forget that they’re a pretty rare and exciting commodity in suburban America. We were reminded — loudly, and for several miles — on Saturday night when Millenium Stables took six horses to the Ormond Beach Christmas parade. I went to help with the horses . […]

We send flowers to celebrate milestones, and to mark sorrow. We send cards for the same reasons. We wish people well, and tell them that we’re praying for them, when they get engaged, married, welcome a baby, graduate from school, buy a new house, and when they are sick, disheartened, or have lost a loved […]
