I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

As a kid, “White Christmas” was one of my favorite movies. How favorite? I would watch it in May, again in September, and you’d better believe I watched in at least one more time when the Christmas season was in full swing. It was that kind of favorite. I could sing and dance all the musical […]

Every year, I tell myself that this Christmas will be different. This year, I’ll get my shopping finished early, so I won’t be frantically wrapping gifts on Christmas Eve. This year, I’ll bake lots of cookies. This year, I’ll read Christmas-themed devotionals. Well, this year, I kept a watchful eye on my calendar. Christmas simply wasn’t going to sneak […]

Twice in my last three blog posts, I’ve mentioned “my chronically sick horse” and “my foundering horse.” So I figured it’s time to officially introduce Bravissima. Here she is, eating — what she does best, and what she clearly enjoys most. At five years old, I fell in love with horses. Specifically, black Arabian horses (thank […]

It might be the odd assortment of hairbrushes, notebooks, and playing cards on my bathroom counter. Or it might be the ever-growing collection of Amazon boxes we haven’t quite managed to get to the recycle bin/dumpster (but thank you, Danny, for getting quite a few of them there this afternoon!). I’m really not sure which […]

I walked the dog outside this morning and was greeted with the sound of horses whinnying and Canada geese calling as they flew overhead. It’s these little things, like those beautiful sounds and the crisp fall air and last night’s deliciousness, that make me appreciate each day anew. (A quick note: There was meat. Lots […]

Flowers never fail to make me contemplate my own mortality. Roses arrive from the florist fresh and youthful, folded in on themselves tightly, almost like a baby curled into a fetal position, so tender and adorable and filled with the promise of what’s still to come. Gradually — or overnight, like a child who adds […]
