I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

I have vivid memories of days during my childhood when my family seemed to be rush-rush-rushing around, with barely a moment to catch our breath. My memories of those days are vivid because they were also rare; rather than being an always-scheduled child, after we finished (home)school each day, I had plenty of time to play, […]

It still feels like it’s only been a few days, or maybe weeks. Karlyn and I were passengers in Amanda’s car, the autumn sunshine pouring into our laps as we sped along the back roads. We were running late, but that didn’t slow down the usual light-speed chatter. I had the back seat to myself […]

This year, as millions of young children and not-so-young children and not-children-at-all don costumes and run door to door, I’ve become that house. That’s right, I’m sitting here typing in the dark, hoping no one will notice the glow of my computer screen seeping past my curtains. My porch light is out; I have no candy […]

It was my second birthday, my mom thinks. The festivities winding down, I decided it was my turn to record the monumental day for posterity, so I picked up my parents’ camera and took a picture. Except that the lens cap was still on. Someone else snapped a real picture of me at the same […]

It was a concept I had long understood, but never known, before Dr. Robbins explained it in Great Works of World Literature during my senior year. Translated literally from Japanese, it means “the pathos of things,” or, interpreted less succinctly but more clearly, the idea has come to mean that fleeting beauty is all the […]

What they say about the grass being greener definitely applies to some of the (relatively) modern inventions that make our lives easier. Case in point. Anyone who knows me well will tell you I’m something of a girly girl. I might not wear many cute accessories or decorate my house in pink, but the one […]
