I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

It’s a common problem that photographers discuss: A couple plans their wedding ceremony for sunset. (Which is wonderful.) They tell their photographer they do not want to have a first look and see each other before the ceremony. (Which is perfectly fine.) And they have their heart set on portraits that look like this:The sad […]

Last fall I wrote a blog post about the importance of wedding day timelines, but I decided it’s a topic well worth revisiting. Timelines don’t get the same kind of hype reserved for wedding gown shopping or choosing your flowers, but I would argue that having a solid timeline is even more important than having […]

Danny and I sat down to start working on our guest list shortly after we got engaged. Then we became overwhelmed and put it off as long as we possibly could. Let’s face it: When it comes to the most fun wedding planning activities, drafting, then slashing, a guest list doesn’t rank at the top. […]

This afternoon, I wanted to tackle the not-always-so-simple topic of what you should do first when you get engaged. Yes, I wanted to plan my entire wedding in those first few days and already be on my honeymoon by the time the weekend rolled around, so I know how it goes: You’re anxious to get […]

When we head out to a wedding, I tuck a fancy satin hanger, or a simple cedar hanger, into my car. At the wedding I second shot with Valentina Glidden earlier this month (which you’ll be seeing on the blog in the coming weeks), I spotted a couple hangers peeking out of her Think Tank […]

This is something that’s been slow-simmering in my pot of ideas for some time now. Back in the day, when I was engaged, I started a blog to help other brides plan their weddings. I even  started working on a book about planning, from the perspective of a bride. But, being busy (you know, my […]
