I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

As I shared late last year, Pinterest was invented literally one month after I got married, so I didn’t plan my wedding with boards I shared with my bridesmaids, and wedding blogs were still a fairly new trend in the industry, so I didn’t spend hours perusing Style Me Pretty (which was two years old […]

When I was engaged, dress shopping was one of my favorite parts of the wedding planning process. After years of perusing bridal magazines, sketching my own ideas for my dress (horrible proportions and all — I can barely draw stick figures), and watching friends pick out dresses for their big day, it was so exciting […]

After last week’s post about indoor portraits, I promised a blog post dedicated to the importance of having outdoor portraits on a wedding day (if possible), so here it is — the reasons why I think outdoor portraits are an essential part of (almost) every wedding day’s photography coverage.1.) Light, glorious light! Is there anything […]

So many of us spend our entire lives struggling to establish our own individualism, to forge identities that aren’t copies of our parents or friends or the model on the cover of the latest issue of Vogue.
