I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Is there anything in the world that feels more awkward to brides than singling out some friends to publicly hold up as your “best” friends while the “other” friends who didn’t make the cut sit among the guests and watch? The correct answer would be “absolutely,” but when you’re a bride about to pick her […]

Some time ago, I remember hearing someone joke about a bride, “Yeah, in the last couple months leading up to her wedding, we had to keep her off Pinterest because she would keep finding more and more new projects for the wedding!” That’s the whole point of Pinterest — to find and pin things that […]

At our wedding reception, Danny and I made a point of speaking with every one of our guests. Not just saying hello in passing, but going table to table, really engaging our guests in conversation, catching up on their lives, and making sure they felt appreciated and welcomed at our celebration. It’s one of the […]

Lace and tulle and English net and more lace. I love veils. This year, apparently, so do our brides. Only two of our 2013 brides to date have opted out of wearing a veil, and we’ve shot seven weddings this year in which the bride chose a cathedral veil. That’s right, a veil even longer than the […]

I’m going to guess that you’ve heard the adage “too many cooks in the kitchen” before you read the title of my blog post today. Just in case you haven’t, it simply means that, when it comes to making a decision or series of decisions, there can be such a thing as too many people […]

When Danny and I were first officially launching our photography business, we were very blessed with friends who were willing to take a risk on our inexperience and let us shoot their weddings. Their trust in us was something we took very, very seriously, and we worked extremely hard to try to produce photographs they […]
