LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Maybe you could call it a mental health day. Or just a “day off,” since, other than my time chaperoning summer came last week, we really haven’t taken a full one of those in . . . over a year. Today, both Danny and I played a bit of hooky (although, truth be told, I’m […]

This week, Danny and I have started making some serious moves to whip our financial future into Olympic-athlete-shape. Cutting spending. Changing some habits. Rearranging plans. Some of it is going to sting, but it’s going to be so worth it just a few years down the road. We’ll look back on these decisions and say, […]

A couple weekends ago, I decided to make French toast. Danny had just gotten back from his Saturday morning bike ride down to Ponce Inlet and back, and we had a birthday party, filled with food, to go to at 1:00. But we needed something to eat then, and I needed to feel like I’d actually […]

Calling Laura a glowing bride simply doesn’t do justice to the joy that radiated from every last centimeter of her body as she walked down the aisle at First Baptist Church of Orlando, one arm intertwined with her father’s, her eyes — tear-filled — locked on Sam. Of all the weddings I’ve ever attended, been […]

We met up at The Casements at 7:00 p.m. this past Monday. It was still swelteringly hot and squint-inducingly sunny. There was one other teensy obstacle to the DeLorenzo’s family session: Baby girl was asleep. Sound asleep. Her aunts had been in the back seat with her on the drive there, tasked with keeping the three-year-old […]

Did you read about the guy in England who recently photographed his friends’ wedding, didn’t back up the images from the memory card he used at the wedding, put the memory card in his wallet, and proceeded to lose the memory card during a bar fight the next week? Yeah, I think that calling him […]
