LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

If you think family portraits have to be shot in a park or at the beach, the Hensons’ backyard shoot will make you reconsider. Their Christmas family portraits yesterday provided definitive proof that a back yard can be the perfect setting, especially when there are small children involved. Being right at home — with toys […]

I’m always a little blue the day after Christmas and need something to make December 26th feel just as fun. This shoot from earlier in the month might just do the trick! FADE In: Ext. quaint bed and breakfast – afternoon. Two couples saunter along the sidewalk, under a sign that reads “Old City House […]

George didn’t want to wear his reindeer antlers tonight. Or his jingle bell collar. Or even lie in front of the Christmas tree long enough for me to get the perfect Christmas portrait of his scruffy little face. This will have to do. That’s okay though. We’ve already had a very merry Christmas, filled with […]

These two pictures went up on Facebook a few days ago, but I hadn’t found time to get them onto the blog yet. They’re just a sample of the post-wedding-“engagement”-session Danny and I shot with Brittany and Brandon at Ormond Memorial Gardens last Sunday, which was both beautiful and a lot of fun. The four […]

After just one year of dancing, she has her sights set on Julliard. Chloe spends four days a week in the dance studio, learning everything from jazz to ballet to lyrical dance, and this past Sunday she had her first Christmas recital. Then, on Tuesday, as a Christmas present from her older sister, ten-year-old Chloe […]

As much as I love Christmas (because it is, after all, the most wonderful time of the year), I can’t wait for January. Specifically, I can’t wait for January in New Orleans. It’s not exactly a vacation, but Danny and I are headed to the Big Easy for the first time, and in some ways […]
