LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

With a whole bunch of portrait sessions scheduled for the next couple weeks, I’ve been thinking about the most common concerns I hear from clients before/as we work together. Frequently, people are nervous about having their pictures taken. Confession time: I am one of those people. What it all comes down to, really, is that most […]

Last year, I introduced fall mini sessions for the first time. They’re back — and there are limited mini session bookings available at the end of October! All sessions will take place in the late afternoon/early evening in Ormond Beach. Limited spots are available and will be booked first-come-first-served. Planned locations include: Monday, 10-24: The […]

Last month I had the honor/privilege/super fun experience of spending an afternoon with some (incredibly talented!) photographer friends, Nate + Lori, and their baby girl just a week before she turned one. And I think the title of this blog post might be just a little misleading, because this was hardly a lazy day — Nate […]

If you’ve spent any time on my blog at all, you recognize these people. From swapping mini sessions at two couples’ retreats to photographing their family at their home to traveling to China with them this spring for their adoption, they’ve made quite a few appearances on this blog. And I have a funny feeling they’ll […]

I couldn’t wait to meet this baby girl. After photographing her parents through their engagement session, wedding, and maternity portraits, I knew we were going to have fun at her first photo session. What I didn’t know was that she would be fascinated by the camera, and completely suspicious of me! Who was this stranger, interrupting her […]

The truth is that I made horrible conversation during this shoot: I just kept sputtering, “You look like a mermaid!” and “Perfect!” every time I pressed my shutter. Izzy was just that great. And the sunrise that morning — not too shabby either. I have absolutely fallen in love with sunrise sessions, and Izzy’s was […]
