LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

When they met, they bonded over football. But Matt needed a great excuse to get Sarah to go out on a date with him; her just-passed birthday provided the perfect opportunity. She really needed to go out to celebrate, he insisted, so he’d take her. To which Sarah responded that she was an adult — […]

What gets you excited? For me, it could be something as big as heading back to the second Pursuit 31 Conference just a week from tomorrow, or checking off big business goals — or it could be something as small as finally enjoying a morning of open-window weather or curling up on the couch with Danny and […]

As photographers, we’re always fixated on light. Danny and I joke about how we’ve become such light geeks. As we’re driving in our car, we’ll both comment, “Wow, look at the light coming through those trees! It would be amazing to photograph someone right there.” And something we’ve noticed is how light looks so different in […]

If you’ve followed this blog for any length of time, you’ve probably realized that I blog five days a week. That’s a minimum of 20 days per month — usually 22 or 23. And that’s over 260 days per year. That’s a lot of blogging. Oftentimes, I get my blog posts written a few days in […]
