LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

After a chance meeting out one night with friends, Stephen said he couldn’t get Jessica out of his mind. So he did what any guy would do, circa 2005: He found her on MySpace. And he loved what he learned about her as they connected online. Then, after repeated requests, he got Jessica to agree […]

Well, we’re back in the D.C. area again! This time, we’re not here to shoot, and we’re not here for a holiday with family. We’re here for a few days playing tourists with some of our best friends. On Thursday, Danny and I road tripped up from Florida with Amanda, and of course George. On […]

The forecast called for rain — more rain, even, than on the evening of their engagement portraits at Vilano Beach two days before. But Emily and Demian were ready to embrace their day, whatever the weather brought. You could see Emily’s elation in the way she grinned in the makeup chair. You could hear in Demian’s voice […]

It’s one of those iconic parts of the wedding day, right up there with the gown and the cake. Brides will not only remember their bouquets, but in some cases, keep their bouquets long after the wedding day — mine is carefully dried, and sitting on top of our piano. So what do you need […]

Yes, this blog post is most definitely tongue-in-cheek. But it also comes from being a bride, and having to respond to these questions and comments with as much grace and patience as I could summon. Sometimes, as the bride, it’s amusing. Sometimes it’s a little offensive. Sometimes it’s just tiring. So what shouldn’t you say to a […]
