LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Ten days before our wedding — on my 24th birthday — Danny and I headed to Disney World. This was back when Disney was doing their amazing (and thus, of course, discontinued) “Florida residents get in free on their birthday” promotion. So I whipped out my driver’s license and got an “It’s my birthday!” pin, […]

They had waited so long for this day. They had prayed for clear skies and a strong marriage, although not necessarily in that order. Denise and Sammy were more than ready to get married — and the pastor, a lifelong family friend from Brooklyn, knew it. As they stood under the oak tree that afternoon, […]

I had a wonderful week in Washington — visiting with friends, soaking in the springtime (and lack of humidity!), just remembering that the most important times in our lives are when we’re with the people we care about most. It really isn’t about how much work we get done, or even how many goals we […]

Earlier this year, Danny took a saw to our beautiful crepe myrtle. For weeks, it stood like a headless body — a tangle of viney trunks that stopped abruptly, flat-topped like a crew cut where the saw had lopped off their leafy branches. People get haircuts on the regular. Trees get a yearly hacking. It’s […]

Handing your wedding rings over to the photographer for close-up ring shots is the easy part — the photographer will decide where and how to shoot the rings. But deciding what to do with the rings for the ceremony itself is your job. The four main options are pretty simple and straightforward: Have the best man […]
