LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

The story goes like this, Nikole said: When it was time to let their family know that they were having a girl, Nikole and Arun wanted a special way to break the news to her father. They searched and searched for a pink soccer ball for her former pro-soccer-player dad. When they couldn’t find one, […]

If I had to describe the majority of our couples with just one word, it would be “classic.” Our couples are classic. Their weddings are classic. So what exactly do I mean by classic? Because, let’s face it, a lot of things can be classic or classical and still be completely dissimilar. Take classic rock […]

It was an un-Florida-like winter. Too cold for too long. Sorry, snowbirds; we natives wanted to head further south, too. Don’t get me wrong — I love hot cocoa and scarves and mittens and all the coziness of winter. For about five weeks, or roughly the length of the Christmas season. Then I’m ready to get […]

A few weeks ago, I received an email from one of my fellow Pursuit 31 photographers, Melissa. She was coming to town to visit family, she told me, and she was hoping to get some family photos while they were here. As I said last time I photographed a sweet family, families aren’t my usual […]
