LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

At the end of the night, as the DJ broke down his equipment and the guests trickled out of the ballroom, Nathan traced his new Rolex — a gift from his best man, Davian, with his finger. “Davian says a watch is a man’s most important accessory. It sets the tone.” Nathan sighed and added […]

For me, figuring out what to include and not include in my wedding ceremony was one of the harder parts of wedding planning. There were so many things — and people — I wanted to incorporate into the ceremony, but I also wanted to keep the ceremony an easy-to-sit-through length. Are there things I would […]

They’re usually the days when you’re stuck at your computer from morning till night. Or otherwise stuck indoors, feeling unable — if only for one day — to unfurl your leaves and grow toward your potential. They’re the kind of days when you don’t necessarily wish you didn’t have roots, but you do wish your […]

We had another camera-less, spontaneous adventure day this past weekend. The plan had been to take the boat up to St. Augustine, but we scrapped that plan pretty quickly as forecasters began calling for bad thunderstorms with hail. So we decided we would head the other direction and spend the afternoon at Downtown Disney. But […]

The forecasters had called for thunderstorms all day — and possible hail and tornadoes. As Amber got ready, tucked away inside a windowless room where she couldn’t see the rain punishing the earth outside, the forecasters’ predictions seemed to be coming true. It poured until forty-five minutes before Amber and Daniel’s ceremony in an alfalfa […]
