LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Yikes! It’s been over two months since my last “My Favorite Things . . . Right now” post, and I’ve been trying to stick to blogging them monthly. Because, you know, my favorite things change depending on when it’s “right now.” So what am I loving “right now”? Well, there’s Nneka and Bobby’s fabulous DIY […]

Except for those few lucky brides whose budgets allow them to invite every living person they’ve ever known and their + 1, I think we’ve all been in that sticky situation: Cornered by an acquaintance who’s demanding to know when they should be on the lookout for their wedding invitation . . . which you […]

All right, Oceanside, I have to come out and say it: You really outdid yourselves this year! Last February, Danny and I had the pleasure of photographing Oceanside Country Club’s President’s Ball, and we were thrilled when we were asked to come back to shoot it for a second time this year. When we arrived […]

For me, this past week and weekend only reinforced it: I love my job. I love my clients. I love the celebrations and milestones and tender, otherwise-forgotten moments they trust Danny and me to capture for them. I love getting to know my clients — advocating for them, collaborating with them. I love seeing how much […]
