LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

It can be frustrating, can’t it? You’re plugging away, doing the best you possibly can (or the best you think you can), and when you pause to catch your breath, you happen to also catch sight of someone else. Who is doing the same thing. And doing it better. Now, I don’t know about you, but […]

As a bride elbow-deep in wedding planning, I wanted to handle everything myself. At first. Then planning a wedding got pretty overwhelming, and I couldn’t have been more grateful for all the wonderful friends, family members, wedding professionals — and even a few strangers — who came together to make my wedding a beautiful experience. So […]

Five years ago. Where were you? Danny and I were:(In California in May of 2008 for a friend’s wedding, and we spent a day exploring Yosemite.) Five years ago I was wrapping up my final semester of college. Can it really be that five years have passed since I was a student? I was deeply immersed in […]

Last night, I did not sleep well. At all. You generally don’t get much sleep if you’re the leader of an underground resistance trying to help what’s left of the world’s population escape from alien detention camps. Laugh all you want — I sure have since I woke up! I lost my good night’s sleep to […]

I took George outside the other morning and noticed a patch of golden sunlight sparkling in the dew-bright grass. I hated looking away — but I didn’t want to keep watching until that perfect patch of sparkling sunlight disappeared. Happiness is kind of like that, isn’t it? You can’t hold it too tightly or it […]
