LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

So here I am, back in my own office inside my own home, in my own town in this (sometimes, but not quite enough as of late) sunny corner of the country. After the whirlwind of going up to Virginia for (a white!) Christmas and New Year’s and then returning to Florida just in time […]

Nneka made the one-block trip from the Winter Park Farmers’ Market — where she and Bobby had had so many weekend morning dates before they were engaged. She stepped into the rose garden — where she and Bobby had enjoyed so many leisurely walks together before they’d moved to Indiana for his postgraduate studies. And […]

The whole family had promised tears. Lots of tears. Eric had predicted his sister wouldn’t even get through her makeup application on the morning of her wedding, because the tears would be streaming so hot and heavy. He had predicted he wouldn’t be able to see clearly as he shot the video of Jordan’s wedding […]

Last April, when I walked into the condo where Kristy was getting ready, I caught my breath. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean, a pretty pastel color palette, lovely furnishings. It was perfect. Not every bride is going to have such opulently beautiful surroundings as we found that morning — but they aren’t mandatory, either. There […]

As we look back on 2012, we can’t help smiling to ourselves. This was a good year. A very good year. (Big thanks to Rachel Kim — Danny’s cousin — for sharing the awesome New Year’s banner she designed!) We’ve got this crazy idea that 2013 is going to be the best. year. ever. So […]
