LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Four-year-old Caitlin (the flower girl) looked at twenty-something Caitlin (the bride) as they waited for the call to line up for the wedding ceremony. One Caitlin said to the other, “I — I’m ready to be a flower girl.” The other Caitlin replied, “You are?! Well, I’m ready to be a bride!” One Caitlin was just […]

As Molly and Oscar sat at their sweetheart table, champagne glasses in hand, Melisa rattled off the traits a middle-school-aged Molly had counted as musts for her perfect guy. “Height: Between 6 feet and 7 feet,” Melisa  read. Molly nodded and the guests laughed. Her groom is well over six feet tall. “Eyes: Brown,” Melisa continued. […]

Something quite interesting has been happening lately. Danny and I have been going to bed earlier — not so much out of choice as out of our bodies forcing us to; we’ve both been falling asleep on the couch, or the floor, or in front of the computer, by 9:30 or so each night. We […]

This morning, I got to enjoy what I’ve enjoyed for three whole years now: I opened my eyes, and I saw my husband. I can’t image life without him, or life with anyone else. Today we’re celebrating three wonderful years of marriage. Three years ago today was the most beautiful day of my life: Perfect fall […]

When tourists think of Florida, they usually envision palm trees. Wide beaches. Mickey Mouse. When I think of Florida, I think of those things, too — but some of the first things that come to mind are a little different. Spanish moss. Scrub pines. Palmetto brush. Clear springs. Marsh grass. Manatees and songbirds and lizards. […]
