LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

When we drove to Virginia and back for Sharon + Harrison’s wedding, I read out loud to Danny. We finished Mockingjay, the last of the Hunger Games trilogy (with an unfortunate seven hours left to drive. . .) on the way home, and I think we accomplished a rare feat: We found a piece of fiction […]

This is the tale of an engagement session that I felt sure wouldn’t happen — or, if it did, would get blown out to sea by the gale-force winds and driving rain that descended on St. Augustine an hour before Tricia and Jonathan were supposed to start dancing in front of the cameras. But the […]

Couples, It might sound like my constant refrain: I love you. I love all our couples. I really do. Each wedding solidifies it in my mind. You all are the very best of brides and grooms. You love one another not just with a convenient-for-now love, but a truly self-sacrificing love that makes me believe […]

By the time Sharon was buttoned into her stunning Monique Lhuillier gown, the rain had passed into the mountains wrapped around Keswick. Everything would proceed as planned: A ceremony in front of the great house, overlooking the vineyards Sharon had long envisioned as the backdrop to her wedding day; a cocktail hour on the East […]

Several of our brides this year have received a mirror from their makeup artists, taken one quick look, and nervously gulped, “Don’t you think this looks like too much?” If the makeup artist knows her job, the answer is simple: Nope. Let me explain. I love makeup, but I’m definitely not a kohl-rimmed eyes kind […]
