LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Let’s be honest: Wedding costs add up quickly. And they usually add up to a lot. While I’m not here today to tell you how much you should spend on your wedding or the best ways to save money, I have one simple tip from my experience photographing weddings — and from being a wedding […]

Danny and I say it to each other often: We love each other more now than when we got married four years ago. And we loved each other then far, far more than when we’d begun dating, four years before that. In the time we’ve been married, we’ve not only gotten really accustomed to each […]

Amy walked out of the bride’s room holding the ruffled skirt of her wedding gown — the gown her mother had handmade — with the biggest smile on her face. “Let’s go get married!” she cheered. And after the ceremony had ended and she walked back up the aisle, arm in arm, with Chris, and […]

This was the fifth time I’ve photographed Elizabeth and Stephen and their beautiful family, and every time, I promise, I have more fun. Last week was no exception. I got the biggest kick out of both Dei and Sonnette, who are going to welcome their new baby sister next month. And Elizabeth! Seriously, have you ever […]

It doesn’t seem like an entire year has passed since the stormy afternoon when Jordan and Wes promised each other the rest of their lives, for better or for worse. They’d already had a number of years together, dating back to high school, and they were so ready for all the years to come. And […]

When I was engaged, I got this bright idea to make my bridesmaids aprons for their bridesmaid gift. I scoured fabric stores for fabric (main and trim) that seemed perfectly suited to each bridesmaid’s personality, and I was pretty thrilled with the results. That was in April. My wedding wasn’t until November. So guess what? […]
