I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Most families contacting me about beach portraits have the same question: where do we shoot? You may be thinking, come on — it’s Daytona Beach, there are quite literally tons of beach there! Why does it matter exactly where you do your portraits? Well, here are a few things I consider: Will there be a lot of […]

Okay, so that title may be slightly misleading. I promise I’ll never try to convince any of my portrait clients that they’ll have a great session in the middle of a hurricane. That said — today’s a little dreary. It’s summertime in the Sunshine State, which ironically means we’ll have rain and clouds come through […]

Recently, my inbox has almost exploded with inquiries from families, couples, and high school seniors coming to Daytona Beach, or Ormond Beach, or New Smyrna Beach for vacations. These are people who don’t live near the ocean and want some gorgeous portraits to remember their time at the beach. And I love that! The happiness and […]

“My kid(s) are kind of a handful.” So goes the refrain I hear from nearly every parent or grandparent booking a portrait session. Kids and cameras mix great — but it isn’t always easy on the adults or little ones involved. Over the years, between my time nannying and volunteering at a preschool, and then working […]

Well, 2016 is almost a wrap. We’re down to the final handful of hours. This year overflowed with portrait sessions — families. Engagements. Newborns. Seniors. Equestrian. An editorial shoot. One vow renewal. One elopement. Two adoptions, one domestic and one halfway around the world. We photographed our family in July. We photographed ourselves as snowflakes fell on […]

Last spring, I shared the story behind Legacy Portraits. But the story of how I became a photographer in the first place? That’s a story I’ve told over and over — but I’m honestly not sure if I’ve ever written it down. So here goes! My photography story starts in college, with a few flashbacks to my […]
