I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

As a bride planning my own wedding (before I became a photographer myself), I didn’t know where to begin when it came to the photography. I asked some friends who they’d had photograph their weddings, but beyond that, I didn’t even know how to research wedding photography. Basically, I didn’t know what I didn’t know. And unfortunately, […]

Through the window, I saw the Fed-Ex delivery guy coming up our driveway and met him at the door. It was still drizzly and gray outside after the impressive thunderstorm that had rolled through earlier in the afternoon, but what the deliveryman handed me brightened my day more than sunny skies and put the biggest, […]

Two weeks ago today, Danny and I were on the road to Virginia. The night before, as Danny and I were snuggled into the couch watching the Olympics, his sister called him. That alone told Danny something was wrong — his sister is an avid texter, but she never calls. Ever. Except that night. She […]

Over the weekend, I was helping out at a high school youth retreat at the beach, and on Saturday, I buckled and asked Danny to bring my camera to me. Then I proceeded to take all of about ten pictures, which will probably never see the light of day. And which was fewer than I […]

After last week’s post about indoor portraits, I promised a blog post dedicated to the importance of having outdoor portraits on a wedding day (if possible), so here it is — the reasons why I think outdoor portraits are an essential part of (almost) every wedding day’s photography coverage.1.) Light, glorious light! Is there anything […]
