LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Friends, it has felt like such a hectic spring and summer around here. It probably hasn’t looked hectic from the outside. But inside it sure has felt that way. We’ve been traveling, hosting friends and family, planning and helping run a week of summer camp, shooting sessions, making big business decisions, working on (also big) side projects […]

If there’s one thing Florida is known for in the summertime, it’s thunderstorms. Well, Florida is also known for sweltering heat and steamy humidity, mosquitoes, wide beaches, tons of tourists, and — I think that pretty much sums it up. But on this particular evening, it was all about the thunderstorms. And how they skirted right […]

You may remember this sweet baby girl from her newborn portraits — but if not, I’m more than happy to introduce you to her now, 6 months old and already hamming it up for the camera! It was a hot and sunny summer morning when I headed back into her adorable nursery to catch up and […]

At first, the morning was so still and calm, it hardly looked as if we were on the edge of the Atlantic — and I’m not going to lie, the otherworldly sunrise made me think of Star Wars and the desert planet Tatooine. Waking up early for this sunrise was well worth it! I promise, this […]

Barely two weeks new, this little man was already a pro at handling his big brothers by the time we took his newborn portraits. He’d already learned to sleep through the sounds of their playing. He’d already learned they were a lot more interested in goofing off — you know, being boys — than in […]

This is Part 3 of a 3-part series, An Adoption Story. To start the story from the beginning, click here. On their first morning as a family, there was yet another new experience: Eileen and I realized this was very likely their son’s first time inside a restaurant. He was completely unfazed. He had slept quite […]
