LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Her due date has come and gone — but no baby just yet! I can’t wait to meet this adorable little one. Danny and I photographed her parents’ engagement and wedding several years ago . . . and then we photographed two of their friends’ weddings, and those friends’ newborns after that. It only seemed fitting that when […]

It isn’t too often that a family welcomes baby #6, so that in itself was exciting enough. But when baby #6 is also turns out — surprise! — to be baby boy # 1? The excitement level just takes off. Especially for sisters #1-5. There is so much love to be shared in a family of […]

I’ve mentioned it before, and I know this won’t be the last time I bring it up: I love photographing families at their own homes. With newborns, it’s almost a given that we will photograph them at home, but as children get older, most families decide to venture outside the house to a park or beach […]

It was another gorgeous spring day when I met up with Sarah for her senior portrait session at Washington Oaks. Sarah grew up with Shona, playing soccer and going to Catholic school — but this summer Sarah’s headed off to college, and so of course we had to get some portraits showcasing the final leg […]

When I was in college and she was little, I knew Lunden because she took riding lessons at my stable. Years later, now she’s the teenager with a horse, getting ready to head off to college next fall, and so to celebrate her senior year, we hung out with her warmblood gelding Caluso and created some seriously […]

When I first heard from Ava and Scott, it was because Ava knew Chelsie and Josh, and I figured that’s what happens in a fairly small town, particularly in the horse community. Then I learned Ava’s family breeds Arabian horses, and I realized this was more than just a small-town coincidence: her family bred my […]
