LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

It had been over a year since they started planning their life together. It began, officially, yesterday afternoon. And they couldn’t start it without plenty of tears, plenty of laughter, plenty of silliness and a whole lot of gorgeousness. We capped the night off with a set of stunning rooftop shots overlooking the Williamsburg Bridge. […]

You know that buzz of excitement that fills a stadium before a championship game, or the anticipation that ripples through a crowd when their favorite band is about to take the stage? I feel an electricity akin to that before weddings. I also sometimes feel so nervous the day before a wedding that I worry […]

During one of my childhood summers in western Pennsylvania, I experienced my first breakup. No, not a boyfriend. A girl who lived up the street, and who decided she absolutely, positively wasn’t going to be my friend anymore when I chickened out one evening at her house and had my mom pick me up from […]

At some point before we book a wedding with a new couple, I always want to know the answer to an all-important question: What is it that makes you interested in having Danny and me, specifically, there to photograph your wedding? To me, that question is incredibly important, because the way a couple answers will help me […]

Some mornings when I let George out, he decides I’m not worth listening to. As in, he pretends not to hear when I call him back to the house. Lucky for me, there’s a word in my vocabulary that’s much stronger than “come.” That word is “snack.” And this is the stinker Georges-Pierre sitting at […]
