LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Technically, the first half of the year ended in June. But in June, it still feels like things are just getting started, what with summer beginning and the school year ending (even though neither Danny nor I have been involved in any kind of school for the past five years. . . .). So we’ll […]

There is so, so much more that goes into designing your reception space than what I’ll be able to cover here today! But my goal for this Wednesday is only to get you thinking about three quick topics. Assigned Seating vs. Open Seating When it comes to assigned seating versus unassigned seating, I think that […]

Yesterday I wrote about how we had just returned from a trip. Sometimes it always feels like we’re just returning from a trip — and that’s because, between trips to see family and friends and photography-related trips, I have only two months on the calendar this year that don’t include a major trip out of […]

What a wonderful week and a half. What a wonderful, busy week and a half. It went something like this: Drive all day to Virginia with Amanda / Julie arrives / Pick Rob up from Dulles / Chipotle! / Walk the Manassas battlefield / Drive to Rockville for delicious Ethiopian food with Julie’s college friends / […]

All Photographers’ Friday blog posts will assume that readers have a basic working knowledge of digital SLR cameras, but if you’re left with questions or don’t understand any of the information, don’t hesitate to ask. I feel like this Wedding Planning Wednesday needs a bit of an explanation. There are plenty of cynical people in the world who would tell you it’s ridiculous that a photographer, who charges thousands of dollars per wedding, would tell couples not to blow their budgets. But I don’t think it’s ridiculous no matter who […]
