LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

I’m willing to go on the record that the saying #firstworldproblems usually irritates me — because often it’s either being used to simultaneously validate and negate a silly complaint by the person doing the complaining, or as a snarky put-down toward someone who complained. Granted, we all do need reminders that we probably have it […]

One mistake I made in planning my own wedding was not sitting down to discuss when and where we should shoot the formal family portraits on the wedding day. He didn’t volunteer his opinion on his own, but, as a busy bride who hadn’t yet turned her professional attention to weddings, it didn’t occur to […]

You might recognize Sonnette from her newborn portraits and four-month portraits — or you might not, now that she’s hit the big 0-1. Photographing her with her family has been such a pleasure throughout this past year, because they’re as sweet as families come. Clearly. Sonnette arrived at her great aunt and great uncle’s house […]

It was a Sunday afternoon like any other. But we couldn’t put off the inevitable any longer. Poor George really didn’t see it coming. Danny and I felt terrible, but it needed to happen. And this was his face once we were all in the bathroom and I had shut the door behind him. “Do I […]

Perhaps Nathan’s and Melinda’s love can be likened to the gift he left for her to find on their wedding morning: It was a dainty little blue box from Tiffany’s. With a handwritten note, on notebook paper, tucked under the ribbon. Their love is rich and beautiful, like her elegant ring from Tiffany’s. It’s also […]
