LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

At this time of the year every year, without fail, I feel contemplative. As a teenager, it was bad. Really bad. I would actually mope about the year we were leaving behind — I think it came from having a bit of a Peter Pan complex, the whole not wanting to grow up thing. And […]

Oh, 2012, you have been a wonderful year! We’ve been so incredibly blessed to work with some amazing brides and grooms this year, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have gotten to know these couples. Being a part of their weddings was such a joy. So we thought we’d take this opportunity to relive them […]

It’s been kind of quiet here on the blog recently. That’s because our lives have been really loud and busy! Danny and I are in Virginia for the holidays, and we spent a wonderful Christmas with his side of the family, at a church service in the morning, cooking our Christmas feast during the afternoon, […]

When I got married, I had never heard of a bride and groom having a first look before the ceremony. Never heard of a father-daughter first look. Never knew that some brides and grooms hold hands around a doorway to pray together without seeing one another before the ceremony. Looking back on my own wedding, […]

There aren’t many times that I find myself at a loss for words. I’m a talker. I talk. A lot. Except when I’m upset — then I hardly talk at all, can’t string words together into coherent sentences. On Friday, I couldn’t come up any words that seemed fitting for so many beautiful children whose […]
