LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Remember how we photographed Eileen and Phillip of Blume Photography when we were at CONNECT? Well, they photographed us, too, and here are a few of our favorites! (I shared these a few days ago on my personal Facebook page, but I’m sharing them here now for anyone who isn’t friends with me on Facebook. And […]

Some things in our lives are hard to admit, even to ourselves. Some things are just plain easier to tune out, or put off, or actively combat, because they’re too scary, difficult,, complicated, improbable. But if those things are the very same dreams in which you find happiness and contentment and purpose, if they’re the […]

A couple months ago, I had the absolute pleasure of wandering Downtown Daytona Beach with Nancy for her senior portraits. It was a beautiful afternoon, filled with glowy sunlight and nonstop laughter. Nancy had wanted a shoot that was a little bit urban, a little bit natural, so we found the perfect setting along the […]

This past Saturday, on a warm and sunny evening, we watched Karen and Troy share their first dance as husband and wife under the eaves of the barn at Millenium Stables, and it felt as if our photography career has come full circle. Almost exactly three years earlier, Karen’s daughter Brittany got married on an […]

So, a funny thing happened at CONNECT last week. Just before we photographed Eileen and Phillip, we ran into Sabrina and Ben as they headed to dinner, and Sabrina asked me to get a shot of the two of them all dressed up. Naturally, I took the opportunity to drag them away from the dining […]

Last year at CONNECT, we met Eileen and Phillip, but we didn’t get to spend enough time with them. I ran into them again at the Pursuit 31 conference last October, when they modeled for a styled shoot, and we spent the rest of that evening chatting. This year heading into CONNECT, Danny and I […]
