LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

They came dressed perfectly for fall. The only problem was — at 90 degrees, the weather wasn’t quite cooperating with our idea of “fall.” There were murmurs that next fall, they would wear summer clothes for their portraits! (No, guys, you looked way too cute pretending the air was crisp and autumnal! And that fox […]

If this wetlands session looks vaguely familiar…it might be because we did almost the same shoot, almost exactly three years earlier, when these two were engaged and eagerly anticipating their life together. And then, last month, we did this session…with these two eagerly anticipating life with their soon-to-arrive little man. They didn’t bring their dog(s) […]

They wanted beach portraits — and although, as a photographer herself who knows all too well that we can’t control the weather during a shoot, she really hoped they would end up with a soft, pastel sunset and glassy-smooth water skimming along the beach and reflecting like a mirror. What we ended up with were her […]

They’d gotten married in the late spring, but they hadn’t gotten wedding portraits — and so, a few months later, they wanted to dress up again and get those pictures as their marriage was still just beginning. I couldn’t have been happier to oblige! It was hot, and it was buggy, but these two made […]

This month was one we’d been looking forward to all year — because, after years and years of daydreaming about a trip to France together, it finally happened. It was wonderful. An apartment in Saint-Germain served as our home base for two weeks of seeing all the sights, sampling all the food . . . and […]

This is Part Two of Claudia’s amazing senior portrait session. Click here to see Part One, her sunrise beach portraits. It took a while for the two of us to tear ourselves away from the vivid sunrise at the beach, but eventually we headed across town, ventured down a long and very muddy dirt road, and […]
