LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

This is only Part One. That’s right. Claudia’s senior session was so much fun (and involved so many beautiful portraits in two different locations) that I decided to split it into two blog posts. Later this week, her equestrian portraits. But today, her gorgeous sunrise beach portraits:This was one of our first frames of the […]

In their family’s history, they’d never taken a beach vacation. This summer, they rectified that with a week in Florida. But our schedules overlapped for only a few hours during their trip here — we had one time and one time only that we could capture their first-ever family portraits on the beach, so we […]

Saryn grew up visiting the area and enjoying the local beaches, so when it came time to think about senior portraits, she knew she wanted them to happen on the Florida beaches she loves. They couldn’t have happened more beautifully: on a gorgeous, hazy-sunny afternoon in early August, with a salty breeze that kept the […]

They came from the desert, so they wanted to capture some family portraits that looked a whole lot of different from their everyday scenery. Instead of red rocks and cacti and canyons, they wanted rocky beaches and lush foliage and lapping waves. We got in some of everything they wanted, and then some, thanks to a […]

Beautiful things can happen when you’re willing to brave the summer heat and humidity (and dragonfly-sized mosquitoes) for the sake of family portraits. That’s what we found out when we met up for portraits at Washington Oaks one evening last month. The boys kept telling us, “There are flies on me” — and by flies, […]
