LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

I was on the phone with one of our 2013 brides when she told me something that put a huge smile on my face: “Yeah, I told my sister to find some bridesmaids dresses she liked and let the other girls know what she chooses,” she said. She had given her sister an idea of […]

Oh, Kristin and Billy, if every couple were as happy as you two, the world would be filled with far more smiles. I’ve known Kristin for years — since I was in elementary school. When we met, and she was the sophisticated seventh grade student to my lowly fourth grader, I was in awe of […]

When we head out of town, I’m always grateful for the change of scenery. People rave about palm trees and Florida beaches — but when you live with them, it’s easy to forget that they’re enthralling. I crave evergreens and maples, and hills and bubbling brooks. Then, once that change of scenery has become commonplace […]

So. I’ve mentioned my ever-growing affection for long lenses in a couple of posts recently. I’ve been spending more and more time using my 105 mm at portrait sessions (and getting results like this, this, and this!), but that focal length is a little bit too long for some situations, and since it’s technically a […]
