LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

When I was a little girl, I wanted a horse more than anything in the world because I knew there wouldn’t be anything quite like having a horse of my own. When I was a teenager, I got one, and I found out I’d been right. And Erika’s life followed the very same path. I […]

Way back in April 2012, I met Claire and Bill in the springtime, for their engagement session. If you want a serious blast-from-the-past moment, you can check it out on my old archived blog, here. But, fast forward five springtimes later, and I was shooting another portrait session with them — and this time, also with their little […]

All this blog silence for the past however many weeks now has been the result of life being peacefully packed. Last month, Danny and I went to Spain. Eventually, I’ll blog pictures of that (amazing, wonderful, gorgeous, delicious, exciting, and every-fun-adjective) trip. Since we came home, I’ve been keeping consistent work hours, Bible study hours, […]

This winter in Florida hasn’t been much of a winter at all. Balmy, beautiful days and balmy, beautiful nights. Oh — and gorgeous sunrises. A couple months ago, just as fall was wrapping up and winter was getting underway, we headed to the beach with our friends for a sunrise session decked out with girly Lilly […]

“My kid(s) are kind of a handful.” So goes the refrain I hear from nearly every parent or grandparent booking a portrait session. Kids and cameras mix great — but it isn’t always easy on the adults or little ones involved. Over the years, between my time nannying and volunteering at a preschool, and then working […]

Sometimes kids are enthralled by the camera. Sometimes they would just rather chew on things (hands, feet, parents). And you know what? That’s okay, too. Whatever is authentic to every kiddo is what we want to capture . . . and this little man wanted to make sure we captured just how busy he was […]
