LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

From July 14, when I headed out to chaperon summer camp, to July 23, when I finished my second of two planned days off working on organizing my house, I barely touched my photography business. I responded to emails, and my pre-written blog posts went up as scheduled. But other than that, I didn’t work on […]

We love e-mails! […]

Of course a couple who came all the way from the other side of the country — where it rarely rains — to get married in the Sunshine State would be greeted with the remnants of a tropical storm! Emily and Demien took it like champs. They embraced the sunny-then-stormy afternoon at Vilano Beach, just north […]

Emily and Demian’s lovely St. Augustine wedding — which will be hitting the blog before long; check back tomorrow for their engagement session first! — was a great reminder why brides in general, and Florida brides in particular, should always have a rain plan in place. It rained with a vengeance for a short while during […]

I’d always had an excuse: I really didn’t like my shoes; my schedule was too hectic except during the hottest part of the day; the workout clothes I had really weren’t good for running. So I got rid of the excuses. Except for days when I’m shooting a wedding, I can truly set my own […]

As a teenager, I spent the entire year looking forward to Camp Kulaqua. As an adult now, I spend the entire year helping plan for it. Then it rushes by in a whirlwind of laughter and singing and too-little sleep and much-needed caffeine. And I think I love it just as much now as I […]
